I went out to Dundonald Park
the other day. You know the one on Somerset opposite The Beer
Store?
Anyway, I went out there,
playing Mother Theresa to all the dogs who come to Dundonald
to get away from it all. Or cookies, if you prefer. Now these
ones aren't the kind you can buy in the pet aisle at Hartman's
Your Independent Grocer, no no no. These ones are all-natural,
very-good-for-every-kind-of-dog biscuits. And you know what?
Each and every dog loved them. First there was Ebony, the sweetest
little black pit bull you ever came across. The neighbourhood
favourite, you might say. Well, she's easy to please, she went
for the Itty Bitty Cheese right away. Then there was Nikki, a
doddering old girl at 17, who preferred her Veggie Wedgies. Dermot,
a setter who wouldn't take anything until her guardian's say-so,
quite enjoyed a Say Cheese Twist (or two). The irrepressible
boxer, Willy, went for the Itty Bitty Barks like there was no
tomorrow of course. Gella, who was all over me for affection,
never mind the cookies, could not say no to anything going. Nero,
her sister, waited patiently on for the Itty Bitty Apples. Wilkie,
a ruffian if there ever was one, still sniffed tentatively at
the proffered Peamutty Bark, wondering if perchance there were
any pork chops going instead. In the end, though, even he succumbed,
relishing every last crumb. Don't you have any more?
These hand-made all-natural
biscuits are made by The Barking Biscuit Company, a Kemptville
cottage industry. Look at the ingredients - whole wheat flour,
skim milk, peanut butter, rolled oats - they look good enough
to eat your own self. You can buy these cookies throughout Canada
and the U.S. Check out www.barkingbiscuit.com for the store nearest
you. |
